Geek Out!

3/6/2013

If you're stuck in your current job, and see no way out (you know who you are), my advice to you is to geek out!

Wha…?

Yep. That thing that gets you really excited, that makes you look forward to the few minutes you can spare to spend doing it. That thing you do in the privacy of your home—no, not that, oh jeez! I'm talking about the hobby you love, the creative outlet that makes you smile to think about, the thing you do even if your significant other nags about the money pit that it has become but that you love to work on anyway. THAT is what I'm talking about. Geeking out.

These gents—Whit Hiler, Griffin VanMeter, and Kent Carmichael—obviously love their home state of Kentucky. So much so, that they took it upon themselves to launch an unofficial tourism campaign rebranding the state with the slogan, "Kentucky Kicks Ass." It appears no one paid them to do so; they did it because they geeked out on it. And it's getting them, and Kentucky, national attention, including this article in AdWeek.
If you know you could kick ass on a national campaign—if only you were given the chance—why not MAKE the chance? Rebrand something you feel strongly about. Write that quippy ad copy. Fix that god-awful logo. And by all means, have fun doing it! Then put it out there and see what happens. If you're geeking out on it, I guarantee someone else is too!

Thanks for reading!
