I am no longer a TEDx speaker. For now.

8/29/2013

Back in June, I auditioned and was accepted to speak at a TEDx event. But as of yesterday, I am no longer a TEDx speaker. The curators decided during the first rehearsal last Saturday that my talk didn't fit and was too "conversational." I got some excellent feedback and was willing to overhaul my talk. But the curator for this smaller TEDx event is completely overwhelmed, and cannot take time to work with me before the event on September 7. They asked me to "pass this year and try again later."

While heartbroken—being a TED speaker is on my bucket list—I agree that for my talk to fit as a TED talk, it needs to be advocacy and much stronger. I'm ok with this change. I would much rather give a powerful, TED-worthy talk than to give one that could be viewed as mediocre. After all, once it's out there, there's no editing it. I just wish I could have known this several months ago.

Meanwhile, I will continue to offer very conversational talks, on subjects such as creativity, conflict resolution, and good juju. (And I will work on creating a different, stronger, advocacy talk designed specifically for TED.)

It's not every day I see a logo I've done on a cookie. Thank you, City of Chicago!

Could They Be Siblings?

While Google had a wonderful doodle reminder that it's Edwin Schrödinger's birthday, I noticed a remarkable resemblance between the physicist and Chip Kidd, the graphic designer. They have similarly shaped noses, mouths and chins. Oh, and glasses, of course.

Somebody sent me this a while back and said it looked like me (when I was still a brunette). I dunno. Natascha McElhone has bigger eyes and a more prominent chin than I do, but I look at my face every day.

Have you got a doppelgänger? Send me a link or a photo and show me.

Home Come the Monkeys

After ten days of staying with wonderful relatives in California, the monkeys are on their way home. Right now, they're somewhere over Utah. And soon I get to hug them again. Which is what these two monkeys are really good at.
